An article about Sonja’s graduation project Virtuoso in ITEMS magazine.
‘Being an admirer of the genre herself, Sonja van Vuure regrets the lack of engagement many children have with classical music. In an attempt to kindle some enthusiasm she designed Virtuoso, a sound toy that playfully introduces children to classical music. The toy consists of a music box with speakers and lights, and a baton. Trough sensors in the baton, the Virtuoso reacts on the players’ conduction: increasing or decreasing the tempo, activating more or less instruments.
Stan Kock and Than van Nispen tot Pannerden were responsible for the music design; Raymond Reints and Mikail Pehlivan realized the technical design. Vuure is now on the lookout for an investor or publisher that wants to join her in further developing and marketing the toy.’
